When can I start?

You can start at any time. Just give us a call or e-mail us to find out about the available places.

We start new cycles every 3 months in general, but we may also start new classes on demand.

When can I take my baby to water?

You can take a baby to water as soon as from birth or as soon as you feel ready for it. The NHS website (www.immunisation.nhs.uk) states that there is no need for your baby to have her vaccination before you take your baby swimming. However we suggest that you ask your GP or Health visitor for advise.

What qualifications do your instructors have?

Before taking the plunge to teaching Bubble & Splash lessons our teachers have attained STA (Swimming Teachers Association) qualifications and they have spent a full term observing, practicing and teaching our lessons. To maintain high teaching standards our teachers are kept informed with the latest techniques  in baby and toddler swimming by participating in specialised workshops.

All our instructors have the following qualifications:

  1. main stream swimming teaching qualifications
  2. specialised baby and preschool teaching qualifications
  3. life saving awards that include infant life support
  4. CRB check

What if my baby/toddler is cold?

We only use pools with a minimum temperature of 30° or 32° for babies under 12 weeks or weighing less than 12lbs/5.5kg.

If you think you baby or toddler needs some extra warmth you can use a wet suit, a baby wrap or baby snug to keep him warm.

What does my baby need to wear?

Your baby or toddler must wear a disposable paper swimming nappy and a neoprene nappy that is called the Splash About Happy Nappy. Whether your child is potty trained or still wearing nappies we insist that he wears the double nappy system.  This will avoid any possible accidents in the pool.

What do I need to bring with me?

We recommend you bring:

  1. 2 disposable nappies
  2. 1 Happy Nappy for your child
  3. A swimming suit for yourself
  4. Towels
  5. A changing mat
  6. A hat to cover your baby's/toddler's head after swimming

What if I’m not able to swim?

Swimming is not a must. There are many parents that have gained so much confidence while watching and joining their young children learning to swim, that they have overcome their inability to swim by taking lessons themselves.

Who else can bring my child swimming if I am unable?

Any one that your child feels comfortable with could bring him swimming.

Can I feed my baby before swimming?

Although young babies and especially breast fed babies can be fed immediately before getting in the water without a high possibility of vomiting or regurgitating in the water, we would still recommend that you feed your baby at least 30-40 min prior swimming.

For older babies that are fed solid food, you should leave at least 1 hour after a big meal prior swimming.

Would your lessons include safety skills & submersion?

The short answer is yes. For more information on our lessons content please click here.

Would my child be safe to swim underwater?

Babies have a special affinity with water having spent 9 months in their mother's womb. They are born with a primary reflex that will help them hold their breath while submerged in the water. During our programme your little swimmer will learn how to progress from a reflexive action to a voluntary action.

While submersion for young babies comes only natural, older babies and toddlers become more aware of the surroundings developing fear of water and objecting submersion.

We are using a series of breath holding techniques, songs and games, teaching submersion as a fun element. Submersion techniques require special training. We do not recommend that you practice submersion at your local pool as you may expose your child to a grate risk.

How long does it take to complete your course?

Although we have well defined aims and objectives we are not a time frame or target led swim school, we like to teach our lessons at each child’s pace.

Each child is unique and so is his progression during the learning to swim journey.

We will observe your child’s progress and we will let you know when he is ready to move to the next level.

Our focus is on the young swimmer. We advise parents to trust their child's individual progress, show their love and praise unconditionally.
